It's another "Why" Day

Sitrep: Nothing. At. All. I'm a wee bit cranky (headache started once arrived at work due to excessive use of cleaning chemicals this weekend by our cleaning person.) Should post the review I started weeks ago on "Dark of Night" only I need to finish it up & "trim down" my wordiness. Yes, hard as it is to believe, my posts are usually trimmed down quite a bit from the original. And in the mood I'm in, I'd probably be a bit snarky in my rewrite/pare down, especially in light of some author comments I came across after reading the book & writing my review. So here are some why's from Up My Mind and Way In The Back... Why do car designers/manufacturers never take into consideration that their bigger, brighter, cover-more-area headlights are actually high-beams? Why are those bigger, brighter, cover-more-area-used-to-be-the-high-beam headlights usually on trucks/SUVs (cars that are generally higher than cars)? Why oh why do people with these high beam lights like to tailgate? Because at night, it's hard enough to see anything other than those wide area ultra bright lights blaring into my eyes from oncoming traffic. But when I'm at a stop, or slowing down, and the cars behind me don't keep a decent distance, their lights fill every single mirror and reflect into my eyes... And I do mean every single mirror...rearview and both side mirrors. It is blinding... Why do people do this? Why can't we learn that bigger (in this case, brighter) is not necessarily better? And why do I let it bother me? It's just irritating. Like the whole distance-between-cars thing. Why do people insist on tail-gating and stopping on top of each other? Hellloooooo. Please leave space between my car and yours, please. Especially when it's been half raining/half snowing all day!!!!!!!!!!! Three car accident last week on the way home from work delayed traffic for hours. Cause: tail-gating & inattention. One driver wasn't paying attention, couldn't stop soon enough, hit the car in front if it, hard. That car was parked right on top of the car in front of it, and therefore unable to do anything but ram into them. Nice, huh? If that middle car had had the proper amount of space, they wouldn't have hit the one in front. And that's from the police in the paper. Not just my thinking. Why is my break over?????

"Why?" Day for January 2008

Sitrep: Nothing. Unless snow shoveling counts? Did about 5 minutes after work.

- Why do people wash their dishes but leave their dirty forks & knives in the sink?

- Why, when the arctic cold front hits, do people spend the weekend goofing off instead of bringing enough wood into the house to last for several days, especially when it's their ONLY source of heat, and their wood stove will only hold a fire for 4 hours?

- Why do they then take a day off work to haul wood, and expect everyone to feel sorry for them because they have to use a vacation day to do so? [Heloooo. They had Saturday & Sunday to stock up.]

- Why do people that have 4wd vehicles think this means they can cut everyone else off when the roads are icy/snowy? [FYI - Just because you have 4wd, does not mean I have 4wd. Just some food for thought.]

- Why do I like such cold temps when my car doesn't?

- Why do organize myself so well I can't figure out where I stored my ski gloves after last winter?

- Why do I keep adding to my "House Project List" when I haven't gotten anything done since the living room over a year ago?

Running on Empty

Sitrep: Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Crashed and burned...

It seems I'm full of questions, yet empty of answers. So today is going to be my "Why..." day. Maybe I should do this monthly? It might be good for me!>

Why is the US government debating whether or not to label the deaths of Armenians in Turkey in 1915-17 genocide when genocide is currently taking place in various places around the world yet we aren't doing much of anything to stop it? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7035597.stm

Why is it okay to debate after the fact, but stand idly by during? (The Holocaust, Rwanda, Darfur, come to mind.)

Why do people get so upset and have such heartburn over Spanish being spoken routinely in this country, or having signs and directions and instructions in multiple languages, that we have to consider a law to make English the national language? I'm fairly well-traveled, and even in the freakin' backwater places of South America I've been to there have been multi-lingual signs. And many people speaking, gasp, English.

Why is it that a handful of states get to select who gets the presidential nomination for each party?

Why can't they be made to appeal to as many of us as possible to get the darn nomination?

Why wouldn't that get a moderate in office?

Why do I have to keep reading the news?

Why is it when a coworker screws up, I'm always the one spending hours out of my already packed day fixing things? (Well, this time it was me, the C.O.O., and another coworker. None of us initiated the problem, either.)

Why do people think because they screwed up on their planning, didn't attend the class they needed the first 3 times it was offered, are going on vacation instead of attending the class you scheduled when and where you did just for them, they can go "over your head" to get into another, private class offering? One that a competitor is footing the bill for?

Why do so many people think they are so much better or more deserving of special treatment than everyone else?

Why is any of the above my problem?

Why is it when someone sees the Rubix Cube on your desk - even though it has a DON'T YOU DARE! sign on it, even though you have ANOTHER ONE they can touch - they just have to play with the perfect one?

Why do I have to have a perfect one on my desk anyway? (And why do I have to have the messed up one where I can't see it?)

And why is it when someone says "I know what I'm doing" you know you're about to be blown out of the water?
